Webb Guest of Honour at Golf Day
24th September, 2011
Baris NCEL president Howard Webb was the guest of honour at Bottesford Town's inaugural Golf Day at Holme Hall earlier this month.
A total of 60 players consisting of Club members, friends and associates joined in the competition on Monday 12th September and, in spite of the 'gale force' conditions, experienced an enjoyable day.
Howard was on hand to make the presentations after original plans for him to play in a foursome had to be changed.
That was because his colleague Martin Atkinson got summoned to officiate at the Barcelona game the next day and his two Premier League buddies were given games in the Europa League.
Howard was made welcome by all who joined him in the Holme Hall lounge during lunch and the afternoon sharing stories and relating some of his experiences.
In terms of the competition, the photo below shows the winning team - (left to right, from second left) Steve Carter, Martin Horton, Jack Fixter and Steve Altoft - along with Howard Webb, Tony Reeve and Bill Barrowcliffe.
Bill, who has made a number of donations to a wide range of local sporting organisations, provided an excellent trophy in the form of a claret jug.
One of the other competition winners on the day was Cliff Byrne of Scunthorpe United.
Unfortunately, his team-mates at United had to withdraw from the competition due to them playing football at Rochdale the following evening.
Bottesford Town are planning to hold another competition next year and Howard has pledged his support once again and, with fair notice, he will definitely enter a team of four.
