Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #42
8th March, 2012
Bridlington Town returned to the top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division with a 6-0 home thrashing of Nostell Miners Welfare.
The Seasiders bounced back from their weekend defeat to Parkgate to climb above Retford United on goal difference.
Craig Hogg struck twice to take his season's tally in all competitions to 31 whilst Josh Greening also netted in the opening half and Billy Logan, Danny Brunton and Stuart Rice scored in the final fifteen minutes of the match.
Two of the title chasing pack met at the 2inspire Park as Tadcaster Albion and Parkgate shared six goals and gained a point each.
Kieran Corley had the home side ahead on 37 minutes but Parkgate levelled before the interval and then took the lead through Ashley Worsfold early in the second period.
In what was turning into a rollercoaster of a game, Terry Taylor equalised for the Brewers and then Tom Corner put Tadcaster back in the lead in the last ten minutes.
However, the visitors made sure of a draw when Janni Lipka found the net to conclude the scoring.
A Tom Matthews brace against Hall Road Rangers secured a 2-0 home victory for Brighouse Town who moved above Tadcaster into seventh spot.
Long Eaton United notched up their first win in ten league games as goals from Danny Chambers and Shaun Rickford earned them a 2-0 scoreline over visitors Liversedge.
Bottom side Selby Town went down 2-1 at Barton Town Old Boys whilst Steve Baxter struck twice in the last four minutes to help Pickering Town to a 4-1 victory over Armthorpe Welfare at the Recreation Ground.
Shirebrook Town will face Grimsby Borough in the Final of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy after a dramatic game at Louth Town.
Joe Meehan and Liam Pride had them two ahead after 23 minutes before Danny Kilmore pulled one back for the hosts after the break.
It stayed tight until the last ten minutes when Mitchell Slawson restored Shirebrook's two goal advantage and, although Carl Martin again halved the deficit, the Derbyshire side hung on to progress.
It was a disappointing midweek for Baris NCEL sides who were in County Cup action.
In the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup, Handsworth went ahead early through Sam Smith at Evo-Stik League side Sheffield and were two minutes away from a marvellous victory when the home side equalised.
The hosts then prospered in extra-time, Dan Williams completing his hat-trick in their 3-1 win.
Staveley Miners Welfare went down 3-0 at Worksop Town and Hemsworth Miners Welfare bowed out, 2-1 at home to Penistone Church whilst, in the Notts Senior Cup, Retford United lost 1-0 at Newark Town in the Quarter-Finals.
