Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #41
4th March, 2012
Dreams of Wembley are still very much alive for Staveley Miners Welfare in the FA Carlsberg Vase after they reached the Semi-Finals at the weekend.
A 3-0 home victory over St Ives Town of the Chromasport and Trophies United Counties League means the Baris NCEL Premier Division side will be anxiously waiting for Monday's draw to see who they will face in a two-legged clash for a chance to play at the national stadium.
Ryan Damms struck for Staveley after 36 minutes and a Jordan Hall brace in the second period meant it was joy for the Inkersall Road side in front of a crowd of 575.
Retford United returned to the back of the Premier Division after a dramatic 4-3 victory at next-to-bottom Maltby Main.
The Badgers were 3-1 down going into the last ten minutes before Carl Haslam and Karl Slack brought them back level and Haslam then got his second and the winner in injury time.
The day had started with Bridlington Town at the summit but they were beaten 5-2 at home by Parkgate who harbour plans themselves of a late charge for the title.
Josh Greening struck early and late on for Bridlington but, in between, goals from Luke Fletcher, Matthew Griffin twice, Brian Cusworth and Matthew Outram made it a much happier day for the visitors.
Winterton Rangers and Scarborough Athletic also kept their championship challenges going with victories.
Scott Bibby, Andy Walkden and Jake Stannard netted for Winterton in their 3-1 home win over Long Eaton United whilst Ryan Blott's penalty on the hour earned Scarborough a single goal victory at Nostell Miners Welfare.
Seventh-placed Tadcaster Albion lost a little ground as they drew 1-1 at Pickering Town, Tom Corner getting them a point after Tom Fenwick had put the Pikes ahead early in the second period.
Brighouse Town, who are eighth, lost 4-3 at home to Armthorpe Welfare, Ben Muirhead with the winner in stoppage time in a thrilling game.
Basement side Selby Town were beaten 4-0 by visitors Thackley, Mark Bett netting a brace amongst the away team's scorers.
And, there were 2-2 draws for Arnold Town at home to Hall Road Rangers and Barton Town Old Boys at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Handsworth are the new leaders of Division One, going above Pontefract Collieries who were without a game, by beating visitors Shirebrook Town, 5-3.
Scott Bates struck twice to give them a two-goal lead by the break before Danny Naylor halved their advantage at the start of the second period.
Ryan Johnson made it 3-1 but Shirebrook restored parity through Mitchell Slawson and Peter Stubley.
But, Handsworth finished the stronger with goals from Tom Roebuck and Luke Broadbent ensuring the win.
Third-placed Glasshoughton Welfare edged closer to the top two with a 1-1 draw at Teversal, Liam Radford equalising on 74 minutes after Sean Dickinson had put the hosts ahead just before the hour mark.
Albion Sports stayed in fourth after their 2-2 draw at Rossington Main, Paul Helliwell with their leveller six minutes into injury time.
There were home victories for Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Askern Villa.
Hemsworth won 2-1 over Dinnington Town, Dean Foley's 68th minute strike proving to be the winner, whilst a Gary Collier brace helped Villa to a 5-2 victory against Yorkshire Amateur.
Louth Town were 2-1 victors at bottom side Appleby Frodingham whilst a late Andrew Fieldhouse strike saw Eccleshill United draw 1-1 at AFC Emley.
