Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #39
26th February, 2012
Goal difference continues to be the only thing to separate the Baris NCEL Premier Division's top two sides after another busy Saturday of action.
Bridlington Town remain ahead of Retford United after their 3-2 victory at Barton Town Old Boys.
The Seasiders had found themselves behind through an Anthony Bowsley header before Craig Hogg restored parity on 26 minutes.
An Ashley Dexter own goal put them ahead just before the hour mark and Hogg added his second soon after.
Dexter then made amends grabbing Barton's second in injury time but there was not enough time for the hosts to claim an equaliser.
Retford were 1-0 winners at Armthorpe Welfare, Danny Hayes with the vital strike on 37 minutes to keep them level with Bridlington but having played two games more.
The two other top four sides, Staveley Miners Welfare and Winterton Rangers, were without a game so that gave the chasing pack a chance to close the gap.
And, they did just that with the teams between fifth and eighth spot all winning.
Scarborough Athletic had to wait until the final quarter of their game at home to Maltby Main to break the deadlock, Adam Lee, Tony Hackworth and Ryan Blott all netting in a 3-0 victory.
A brace from Billy Law helped Tadcaster Albion to a win by the same scoreline over visitors Long Eaton United and Parkgate put Pickering Town to the sword with a 6-1 victory at the Roundwood Sports Complex.
Janni Lipka opened their account after just two minutes but a Tom Adams penalty quickly made it 1-1.
The hosts, though, were three goals to the good by the interval with Brian Cusworth, Lipka with his second and Luke Fletcher all finding the net.
Cusworth doubled his tally early in the second half and Ashley Worsfold's injury-time penalty completed the rout.
Eighth placed Brighouse Town were 3-2 victors at Nostell Miners Welfare with Luke Gibson's 74th minute strike proving to be the winner after the visitors had been pegged back twice by the hosts.
Selby Town remain in bottom spot after they were beaten 3-1 at Hall Road Rangers and Liversedge were 2-1 home winners over Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Two goals in the final two minutes from Sam Smith saw second-placed Handsworth close the gap on Division One side Pontefract Collieries to three points with a 2-1 win at Bottesford Town.
Third placed Glasshoughton Welfare kept their title hopes alive with victory by the same margin at home to Appleby Frodingham, Carl Fothergill and Liam Radford striking for them in the first period before Scott McKay pulled one back on 60 minutes.
Albion Sports missed out on a chance to move up into fourth as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Worsbrough Bridge Athletic but Rossington Main closed the gap on the top five with a 2-0 win over visitors, Yorkshire Amateur.
David Holvey put them ahead on 52 minutes before a Glen O'Gara own goal made sure of the points in the final quarter.
A late double from Andrew Hayward ensured a 4-2 victory for Hemsworth Miners Welfare at Hallam whilst AFC Emley won 3-1 at Askern Villa, Daniel Lyness striking twice on his full debut for the away side.
And, Teversal went down 3-2 at home to Dinnington Town, Jon Roper with the winner just after the hour mark.
