Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #33

29th January, 2012

With the top two in the Baris NCEL Premier Division not playing on Saturday, it gave the chasing pack an excellent opportunity to close the gap but only one of the five teams below them took full advantage.

Scarborough Athletic climbed up into fifth with a 3-1 home victory over bottom three side Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Ryan Blott made it twenty for the season with two of the Seadogs goals whilst Adam Lee also got on the scoresheet before the visitors grabbed a late consolation through Luke Forbes.

Staveley Miners Welfare are now third, on goal difference behind second placed Bridlington Town and six points away from leaders Retford United, after a 1-1 draw at struggling Hall Road Rangers.

Simon Barraclough had put them ahead on 24 minutes but parity was quickly restored by the hosts, courtesy of a Ricky Foster header.

Staveley go above Winterton Rangers who went down 2-1 at basement side Selby Town, Craig Aspinall's penalty and Ben Slater's injury time winner turning the game around in the last ten minutes after Graeme Severn had seemingly given Rangers the points.

There were also 1-1 away draws for Parkgate and Tadcaster Albion.

Janni Lipka had broken the deadlock early on for Parkgate at Barton Town Old Boys before Richard Medcalf cancelled out their opener.

And, Tadcaster were behind to a Nathan Cartman 32nd minute goal at Liversedge but took a point thanks to Nick Thompson's first half injury time equaliser.

Brighouse Town closed the gap on the top seven with a 3-1 win at Arnold Town with strikes from Nick Jagger, Tom Matthews and Danny Nadiole.

Pickering Town were the biggest winners in the Premier Division as a Steve Baxter brace helped them to a 5-0 home victory over Nostell Miners Welfare.

Thackley won 1-0 at next-to-bottom Maltby Main and Armthorpe Welfare won in stoppage time by a single goal at home to Long Eaton United.

Pontefract Collieries extended their lead at the top of Division One to six points after a 5-2 victory at Grimsby Borough.

Ryan Poskitt struck twice to give them a two-goal cushion by the break and Duncan Bray added a third before Josh Fuller pulled one back for Borough near the hour mark.

Scott McGrory and Steve Lyon made sure of the victory, however, and John Taylor grabbed a second for the hosts in injury time.

Glasshoughton Welfare started the day in second spot but were beaten 2-1 at home by Hallam, Aaron Moxam and Liam Morris scoring the visitors' goals in the opening 32 minutes before Carl Fothergill halved the deficit late on in the second half.

They drop to third with Handsworth going above them after their 5-2 win at Eccleshill United, Scott Bates with a hat-trick and a double for Sam Smith.

Lee Holmes scored all of Worksop Parramore's goals in their 3-2 victory at bottom side Appleby Frodingham to move them into the top four.

Two other hat-trick heroes were Julian Topliss who helped Shirebrook Town to the biggest home win in Division One this season, 8-1 at home to Yorkshire Amateur, and Steve Norton in Louth Town's 3-2 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

David Heagney's last-gasp penalty saw AFC Emley snatch a 2-1 home win over Teversal whilst Jon Roper struck in the 81st minute for a 1-0 victory for Dinnington Town against visitors Rossington Main.

Two games were called off due to a waterlogged pitch - Albion Sports at home to Bottesford Town and Askern Villa's trip to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

There was one game in midweek as Pickering went down 4-2 at Grangetown Boys Club in the North Riding Senior Cup.
