Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #32

22nd January, 2012

Staveley Miners Welfare are into the last sixteen of the FA Carlsberg Vase after a fine 3-1 win at Willand Rovers.

The Baris NCEL Premier Division side had a long trip down to Devon for their Fourth Round game but it would have been a happy journey back after the victory was sealed with second half goals from Tom Jones, Ryan Damms and David Cockerill.

They will see who they will face for a place in the Quarter-Finals when the FA make the draw on Monday.

Retford United had a chance to stretch their lead at the top of the Premier Division over second-placed Staveley but were held 1-1 at Pickering Town, thanks to a late goal from Darren Clough after 88 minutes.

The Badgers, who took the lead early in the second period through Adam Scott, remain six points clear of Bridlington Town and Winterton Rangers who both moved up into the top three with wins.

Bridlington claimed the double over their tenants with a 2-1 victory in their 'away' game at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium.

Sixth-placed Scarborough Athletic broke the deadlock after just five minutes through Tony Hackworth but Billy Logan struck twice in the second half to give the Seasiders the win in front of a crowd of 748.

Winterton came from 2-1 down at halftime to visitors Maltby Main to earn a 3-2 win, with goals from Robert Sanderson and Kyle Hadley.

Tadcaster Albion's title hopes took a blow as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Armthorpe Welfare, James Walker and Joe Lumsden with the first-half goals.

Parkgate kept their outside hopes of being champions alive with a 4-1 home victory with Liversedge.

Nathan Swindells netted twice for the Steelmen who are seventh but ten points behind Retford with three games in hand.

Basement side Selby Town's woes continued as a 6-0 defeat at Brighouse Town leaves them five points behind Maltby.

But, Lincoln Moorlands Railway's 2-1 home win over Hall Road Rangers has moved them further away from the bottom two, Lee Beesley and Ben Garrick's goals in the opening ten minutes proving to be enough for the hosts.

A rampant first half from Thackley helped them beat visitors Barton Town Old Boys, 5-4, with all their goals coming in the opening period.

Dempsey Smith struck twice and there were further goals from Mark Bett, Luke Hudson and Matt Hall.

Barton, who were 5-2 down at the interval, almost staged a remarkable comeback as Richard Medcalf and Michael Gibson converted late on but the home side managed to hang on.

Long Eaton United snatched a point as two goals in the last two minutes from Jacob Webster and Dean Whiley grabbed them a 2-2 home draw with Nostell Miners Welfare.

Liam Ormsby's penalty and Duncan Bray's strike, both coming in the last twenty minutes, saw Pontefract Collieries retain their four point lead at the top of Division One with a 2-0 win at home to Eccleshill United.

Glasshoughton Welfare are keeping on their tails though in second spot after they thumped hosts Yorkshire Amateur, 5-0.

Handsworth are up into third, above Albion Sports who were without a game, with a 3-0 victory over visitors Askern Villa, Sam Smith, Scott Bates and Lee Hill with their goals in the opening 33 minutes.

Worksop Parramore complete the top five after Matt Thorpe's 28th minute strike earned them a 1-0 win at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Hallam picked up the biggest Division One victory of the day, 5-1 at Rossington Main, whilst Dinnington Town also won on their travels, 2-1 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

And, there were home victories for AFC Emley, Louth Town and Shirebrook Town.

Emley beat Appleby Frodingham 2-1 whilst Louth were 3-0 victors over Teversal and a Mitchell Slawson double saw Shirebrook 2-0 winners against Grimsby Borough.
