Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #31
19th January, 2012
Only four competitive matches survived the midweek freezing temperatures but there was not a lack of goals with 32 scored in those games.
The biggest victory belonged to Barton Town Old Boys who booked a place in the Final of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy with a 9-1 victory at Division One basement side, Appleby Frodingham.
The Premier Division team, though, went behind after eight minutes through Sam Thorne but, after that, the evening belonged to the visitors with Gareth Barlow grabbing a hat-trick, there were two goals each for Ashley Lattimore and Gareth Owen whilst Michael Gibson and Richard Medcalf also got on the scoresheet.
Bridlington Town also had a comfortable night in the County Cups as they won 7-1 at home to St Andrews to go into the Semi-Finals of the East Riding Senior Cup.
Josh Greening and Danny Brunton netted a brace each for the Seasiders.
There were only three goals in the Baris NCEL President's Cup Semi-Final clash between Handsworth and Winterton Rangers but it proved to be a dramatic clash as the home side struck twice in the last five minutes to grab the win.
Gavin Cooper had put Rangers ahead on 53 minutes before Richard Tootle hit both the late goals for the Division One hosts.
Glasshoughton Welfare moved up to second in Division One after a remarkable 7-4 win at Shirebrook Town.
Luke Thomas put the home side ahead on ten minutes but it was the visitors who went in at the interval with a 4-3 advantage.
Carl Fothergill's 66th-minute penalty put them two goals ahead before Mitchell Slawson quickly halved the advantage.
But, Luke Smith and Liam Radford both struck late on to make sure of the points for Glasshoughton.
And, in two friendlies, Hallam won 4-3 at Maltby Main whilst Tadcaster Albion were beaten 6-1 at home by Bradford Park Avenue.
