Scarborough Move To Be Discussed At AGM

9th June, 2007

League Secretary Barry Wood has confirmed that two different enquiries have been made on behalf of Scarborough FC about playing NCEL football next season.

Both the Seadogs Trust and chairman Ian Scobbie have contacted the NCEL, although neither have yet made an official approach.

The league's annual general meeting takes place in Worsborough Bridge tomorrow, at which the NCEL clubs will discuss whether to allow Boro to join up.

Wood said: "It is something all our clubs will have to discuss. The Scarborough chairman and a supporters trust have been in touch, but both have been a little vague.

"The doors are certainly not closed but we have to make sure the clubs want it, the FA has approved it and that the club has the constitution - for example the ground, players and finances - to keep going."

Should a Boro side take their place in the Premier Division then they could face the likes of Pickering Town, Selby Town and Glapwell next season.

A spot in Division One could earn them games against teams such as Leeds Met Carnegie, Yorkshire Amateur and AFC Emley.

One sticking point for any Boro application could be where the team would play, should the McCain Stadium no longer be available.

Clubs joining the NCEL do have to meet certain ground criteria to get the go-ahead and join the league.

Boro are still hoping to take their place in the Unibond Premier next term, but they will have to pay off creditors by Tuesday's winding-up order deadline.
