Stancliffe resigns as Main boss

2nd May, 2022

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side Maltby Main have announced the resignation of manager John Stancliffe with Dave Watts also set to step down as chairman at Muglet Lane.

The announcement came the day after the Miners' appearance in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Final, a 3-0 defeat to Worksop Town at Doncaster Rovers' Eco-Power Stadium.

A statement released by the club on Sunday evening said: "The club would like to state that we have today accepted the resignation of our manager John Stancliffe.

"It is with a very heavy heart and many things have been taken into account prior to accepting it. It wasn’t made with haste.

"It’s not what either would have liked to be doing after the Cup Final but it’s come at the right time now the season is over and a chance to start fresh for the next.

"Stan has our best wishes for the future and we sincerely hope his next football endeavour is a success. He will be forever welcome at Muglet Lane.

"On the back of John’s choice today, our chairman Dave Watts has also decided to step down from this senior role at the club.

"But, he will work a short notice period to complete this season off, as that needs to be done in the best interests of the club’s off-field volunteers and also playing team. The season off the pitch did not end yesterday for us.

"If his notice period overlaps the new manager coming in, he will settle him into the club and he will be made aware the chairman role will be soon vacant and a new person will step in to work alongside him.

"Once the new chairman comes in, Dave will wish him all the best and step aside. He will not work under him as a vice chairman.

"Dave’s remaining roles at present remain unaffected - media, online team secretary, assistant secretary to John Mills, some banking roles - as the club will suffer more in the short term if he stops these.

"But, this depends on the new chairman’s requirements and what he wishes to have with him in his off-field team. He may not wish to have the former role-holder around.

"If any of these particular other roles become vacant, we will advertise them. They are all voluntary.

"We don’t wish to comment further on either of these stories or answer any speculative questions on the next person(s) who will come in until we have discussed more after the bank holiday."
