Seadogs in Talks Over Move
29th April, 2009
Scarborough Evening News reports that Scarborough Athletic are in talks with a secondary school with a view to playing their home matches there.
The team is currently playing its home fixtures eighteen miles away at Queensgate in Bridlington, but is now negotiating with George Pindar Community Sports College in the hope of finding a temporary new ground at a proposed football stadium within the school grounds.
Athletic was hoping to move to a new community multi-function sports complex to be built by Scarborough Council but fears it could be put on hold due to the recession.
The team has now been promoted to the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after spending just two seasons in Division One.
Club chairman Simon Cope said: "We recognise that any new development is still many years away, and that leaves the club in something of a quandary. We cannot stay at Queensgate indefinitely, and recognise that many ex-Scarborough FC fans have yet to make the trip through to Bridlington for various reasons.
"The George Pindar scheme has the potential to be a temporary home for Boro in the short term, and we are exploring every avenue, both positive and negative, connected with the club moving there."
