Denton extends spell in charge of champions

8th May, 2022

Toolstation NCEL Division One champions Hallam have announced that they have retained the services of manager Craig Denton and his coaching team for the 2022/23 season.

It follows a record-breaking season for the Countrymen who became the first club to reach 100 points and have a goal difference of over 100 in the same Toolstation NCEL campaign and their promotion ends an eleven-year absence from the top flight.

Denton is celebrating his second anniversary in charge at Sandygate having joined the club in May 2020 and is assisted by Rob Poulter and Wayne Thompson with James Humphreys as goalkeeping coach.

The announcement was made on social media by the club.

Emotional reunion ahead of Hallam match

1st September, 2021

Hallam physio Shannon Brooks had an emotional reunion on Tuesday night with match official Andrew Jarvis whose life she was instrumental in saving after he fell ill at a Toolstation NCEL Division One fixture last month.

She leapt into action, performing CPR on Andrew before he was airlifted to hospital, in the abandoned fixture at Rainworth Miners Welfare.

A defibrillator was also used and Shannon has subsequently started up a fundraising campaign to help provide clubs with the life-saving equipment.

Andrew was a very welcome guest at Sandygate for the Countrymen's league match with Retford FC on Tuesday night.

A cheque presentation was also made to Shannon by Toolstation NCEL chairman Brian Jones as the league is very proud to make a donation of £500 to her fundraiser which has already exceeded its £2,000 target.

The money raised will be used to ensure that all Northern Counties East League member clubs have full defibrillator facilities available at their grounds should a similar incident occur at any of them.

The Northern Counties East League congratulate and are grateful of Shannon’s efforts on the day and also her initiative in setting up this defibrillator fund.

Shannon and the two from Rainworth Miners Welfare who assisted her on 14th August, 2021, Richard Smith and Kieron Hinchley, will all be invited to be guests at the NCEL Presentation Dinner at the Cedar Court Hotel, Harrogate, on 25th June, 2022.

Hallam hero sets up defibrillator fund

16th August, 2021

The Hallam physio who leapt into action to help a match official who was taken ill during a Toolstation NCEL Division One match at the weekend has set up a defibrillator fundraiser.

Shannon Brooks is looking to raise £2,000 to equip sporting venues in the region with the life-saving equipment if they do not already have one.

A defibrillator was used to help assistant referee Andrew Jarvis who needed emergency medical treatment as the game between Rainworth Miners Welfare and Hallam was due to go into its second half on Saturday.

Andrew was airlifted to hospital and, following a successful operation, he is hoping to be allowed to go home tomorrow.

On her JustGiving page, Shannon has written: "After witnessing first hand the difference having access to a defibrilator can make in saving someone's life and giving them the best possible chance at recovering, I'm on a mission to raise as much money as possible to be able to buy as many defibs as possible to gift to non league teams who haven't been able to fund one themselves.

"Even if i can raise enough money to buy just one defib to help to allow a club access to a vital life-saving equipment I would be happy.

"Please, if you can donate as little as possible please do. If you can't donate please share!"

So far, £935 has been raised and, to boost the fundraising effort, the Toolstation NCEL Board will be making a donation of £500.

The Board of the NCEL are extremely appreciative of the care given to Andrew by Shannon and those who assisted from Rainworth Miners Welfare, including assistant boss Richard Smith and player Kieron Hinchley.

All three will be invited to our end-of-season dinner and dance next summer where they will each receive an award for their heroic actions.
