Dawson and Whitehead return to Maltby

27th December, 2023

Maltby Main have announced that Andy Dawson and Lee Whitehead have returned to manage the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side.

Both stepped down from their joint manager roles towards the end of last season but they come back to the club as it tries to allay its relegation fears.

The Miners find themselves next-to-bottom in the table, just above basement side Goole AFC by virtue of one goal difference.

The news comes after it was revealed this morning that Maltby had decided to accept the resignation of manager Jamie Smith along with the coaching team Miguel Llera, Simon Kelly and Brad Anson.

A statement released by the Muglet Lane club read: "All four have worked very hard since mid-October when Jamie took over as manager from his then assistant manager role when Lee Thompson's tenure ended.

"This actually began with two wins, but the subsequent twelve games have yielded only one point and a Second Round JCP Construction League Cup exit.

"It's a massive shame, as they are all excellent people who we got on with well. They will always be welcome at Muglet Lane should they visit.

"It's been a difficult period right from the start of the season for all at the club on and off the field.

"The club, as it is now after recent off-field changes, have to fully consider the results from the performances since the last win.

"It's important we stay in the division and a better chance may mean a fresh management team starting as soon as possible - therefore, accepting the resignation."

The returning duo's first two games in charge are at home and they will be looking to cause an upset against third-placed Thackley on Saturday and then leaders Campion the following weekend.
