Briggers Part Company with Hilton
22nd April, 2014
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic have announced that manager Chris Hilton has left the club after four seasons at the helm.
The news came days after the side finished its Toolstation NCEL Division One season on Saturday which sees them currently sixth in the table but they could drop to tenth as other teams complete their schedule.
Hilton took over at the beginning of 2010/11 season after the Briggers finished bottom of Division One in the previous campaign.
In his first season in charge, they finished a respectable twelfth with 55 points from 38 games and his hard work continued to pay dividends because in his second season Worsbrough finished eleventh with 57 points from 38 games.
In his third season, there was again further improvement with the Briggers finishing ninth with 72 points from 42 games, scoring 89 League goals and 15 friendly and cup goals.
In Hilton's final season at Park Road, they finished with 73 points from 42 games, scoring 93 league goals and 8 friendly and cup goals.
Another accolade attributed to Hiton's reign is that he led the Briggers to go undefeated at home in the league for all of the 2012/13 season and that they have only lost four home league games in two-and-a-half years.
A statement from the club said: "The Briggers have improved each season with Chris at the helm and this can only be down to all his hard work, drive and enthusiasm.
"The Board would like to put on record that we have been privileged to have Chris Hilton as manager and we appreciate that we have probably had the most successful sustained period in our history with him at the helm.
"Chris, together with coach Dave Mace and fitness coach/physio, Shaun Handisides, has kept the club competitive in a Semi-Professional League without any funds to attract players.
"Chris's own name and reputation has been the main reason for our success in attracting the players that have given their services to us despite lucrative offers from other more affluent clubs.
"The Board would also like to wish Chris well and all the very best for the future and we can appreciate that he now has a young family which needs more of his time.
"The club shall endeavour to keep up the work ethic that Chris has instilled in our make-up and we will move forward knowing that ours will be the first result he looks for each week."
