Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #67

20th March, 2024

Campion have closed the gap on Toolstation NCEL Premier Division leaders Emley AFC to three points after the top two sides met in midweek.

Patrick Sykes' 26th minute decider earned the hosts a 1-0 victory over the visiting Pewits that gives them a boost in the title race.

Emley have now lost three in a row in all competitions but remain in control of their own destiny as they have two games in hand and a superior goal difference over their trophy rivals.

Garforth Town are seven points off the summit in third spot after their 4-0 home win against Pickering Town.

A Matthew Antcliff double, added to by Jordan Emery and Samuel Cable, means the Miners have almost assured themselves a play-off spot and still have a chance for a title tilt if the two sides above them slip up.

Robbie Fox struck in the 66th minute for Albion Sports as they won 1-0 at bottom side Maltby Main to climb into fourth in their play-off challenge.

Maltby, meanwhile, remain six points away from safety with five games now remaining in their Premier Division season.

Penistone Church climb to sixth, five points behind the play-off zone after Lennon O'Grady, James Stafford, Jordan Barnett and Reece High netted in a 4-1 victory at Frickley Athletic.

Rieves Boocock converted a late penalty as a consolation for Frickley who stay thirteenth.

And, it was honours even at Sandygate as Hallam drew 1-1 with visitors Tadcaster Albion, Cody Collins grabbing a second half equaliser for the Brewers after the hosts had taken the lead in the opening period through Daniel Pudill.

Shirebrook Town made a major statement in the race for the Division One crown as they won 4-0 at title rivals Parkgate.

Carlton Carty broke the deadlock in the opening minute and a Kieren Watson double had them in the driving seat before half-time with Danny South scoring a late fourth.

Shirebrook are three points clear of Wakefield AFC who won 8-2 at home to Retford FC whilst Parkgate stay fourth, nine points off the top with seven games in hand.

Wakefield leapfrog into second after a goal each from Oliver Green, Ben Gelder, T'nique Fishley, Jack Durkin, Jaydan Sandhu and Lewis Stephens was added to late on by a Mason Rubie brace in their comfortable victory whilst Declan Bacon and Aaron Sennett-Neilson scored for Retford FC.

Ryan Gothard and Harrison Rowley struck in the last twenty minutes to rescue a point for Selby Town in a 2-2 draw at Nostell Miners Welfare after a first half double from Alfie Charlotte for the hosts.

There was a goalless draw between Clay Cross Town and Staveley Miners Welfare that leaves the sides eighteenth and tenth, respectively.

Ollerton Town's home clash with Brigg Town was abandoned on 39 minutes due to floodlight failure with the hosts leading 1-0 whilst Silsden AFC's trip to Barton Town in the Premier Division was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

And, Wednesday night's match also fell victim to the wet weather with Worsbrough Bridge Athletic's home clash with Retford United called off.
