Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #62

3rd March, 2024

The heavy rain that made it one of the wettest winters on record continued into spring as the first round of Toolstation NCEL matches in March was badly disrupted over the weekend.

Only five matches, two in the Premier Division and three in Division One, survived the downpours with fourteen games, including a JCP Construction League Cup Quarter-Finals tie, now needing to be rearranged in a what is becoming an increasingly congested end-of-season fixtures schedule.

In the Premier Division, second-placed Campion close the gap on leaders Emley AFC to three points, but having played three games more, following their 3-0 home victory over Barton Town.

All of their goals came in the opening 24 minutes with Samuel Bradley, Nicky Boshell and Nathan Cartman ensuring a comfortable afternoon for the hosts.

Garforth Town have consolidated third spot after they won by the same scoreline at next-to-bottom Goole AFC.

Sam Barker's opener in first half stoppage time was added to by Matthew Antcliff and Charlie Marshall in the second period to open up a six point gap between Garforth and fourth-placed Rossington Main.

A third Premier Division game got underway but Tadcaster Albion's home match with Hallam was abandoned after 65 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch with the visitors leading 1-0.

Shirebrook Town, Brigg Town and Selby Town have all moved up a place in Division One following their wins in the three matches that were played.

Shirebrook are up to third, four points off the summit, following their 1-0 home victory over Staveley Miners Welfare, Richard Patterson with the only goal of the game midway through the opening period.

Dean McCarthy's 65th minute strike was the matchwinner for Brigg as they beat visitors Yorkshire Amateur by the same scoreline to climb to ninth.

And, Selby Town beat Clay Cross Town 8-2 in a game that they were the away side although it was played at their ground having been switched earlier in the week due to a waterlogged pitch at their opponents.

There were two goals each for Tawheed Ahmed, Edward Dry and Harrison Rowley with Liam Love and Daniel Davison also getting on the scoresheet for the Robins who are now twelfth in the table.

Jake Johnson and Liam Jacobi netted for Clay Cross who stay seventeenth, seven points above the drop zone.
