Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #55

8th February, 2024

A 5-0 home victory over Goole AFC in midweek has seen Emley AFC extend their lead at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.

Iyrwah Gooden's first half strike was added to after the interval by a Ruben Jerome brace and one each for James Walshaw and James Eyles as the Pewits swept aside their visitors who remain next-to-bottom.

Garforth Town are now a point of the play-off zone following a 3-1 win at home to Eccleshill United who stay eighteenth.

The away side had taken the lead on thirteen minutes through Zackary Sangster but the game quickly swung in the hosts' favour as Jamie Barkway immediately levelled and Rinor Ejupi struck his side's second on the quarter-of-an-hour mark.

Sam Barker then completed the scoring for the Miners towards the start of the second half to move the Miners to within touching distance to the top five.

And, there was a goal apiece for Joseph Crosby, Oliver Norman, Elliot Holmes, Jayden John and Junayd Cassius-Gill as Tadcaster Albion were 5-1 home winners over Handsworth.

The Brewers are up to thirteenth, leapfrogging Handsworth whose goal came from Aaron Moxam.

Division One leaders Wakefield AFC drew 3-3 at home to Beverley Town in a top three clash with Slater Barkham-Barnes grabbing a hat-trick for the hosts.

His third came in stoppage time to ensure the spoils were shared in dramatic fashion and they move two points clear of second-placed Parkgate.

Beverley's goals came from Alexander Knaggs, Benjamin Hinchliffe and Grant Tait, and they would have gone top with victory but they remain third, behind Parkgate on goal difference.

Wombwell Town strengthened their grip on fifth spot as Kane Reece struck the only goal of the game in the 51st minute for a 1-0 home victory over Selby Town and they have opened up a six-point gap with Retford United who are just outside the play-off zone.

Seventh-placed Horbury Town drew 1-1 at Dronfield Town, Gibril Bojang's penalty restoring parity for them after Arran Bovil had given the home side a first-half lead.

Brigg Town won 1-0 at Nostell Miners Welfare, Dean McCarthy with the winner for the Zebras with nineteen minutes remaining.

And, in Wednesday night's match, it was a comfortable home victory for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic as Owen Birks, Connor Glavin, Andrew Horbury, Kane Swinburn, Alex Hutchinson and Harvey Wigglesworth all bagged one goal each as they beat Armthorpe Welfare 6-1.

Worsbrough stay sixteenth whilst Welfare, whose goal came from Jack Varley, remain in twentieth.

Four games meanwhile, were postponed due to the wet weather, with Campion's trip to Pontefract Collieries in the West Riding County Cup one of those that fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.

Barton Town's home game with Silsden AFC and Frickley Athletic's trip to Golcar United in the Premier Division were called off as was Clay Cross Town's match with visitors Staveley Miners Welfare in Division One.
