Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #54

4th February, 2024

Emley AFC stay top of the Premier Division on goal difference after their 4-1 win at home to Frickley Athletic as February began with a busy Saturday afternoon of Toolstation NCEL action.

Only 84 seconds had passed when Frickley were reduced to ten men, keeper Callum Bradbury red carded for handling the ball outside his area with outfield player Richard Collier replacing him in goal.

The visitors held out until the 44th minute when Ruben Jerome broke the deadlock and then Paul Walker struck in stoppage time to give Emley a 2-0 half-time lead.

James Walshaw added a third early in the second period, Rieves Boocock netted for Frickley on 66 minutes, before Walshaw's second ended the scoring with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

The Pewits have three games in hand on second-placed Campion who kept up the pressure with a 3-2 victory at Hallam, Patrick Sykes, Stephen Crawford and Nathan Cartman giving them a three-goal cushion by the 46th minute.

Danny Buttle's penalty and an 84th minute strike from Calum Ward brought the hosting Countrymen back within touching distance of their visitors but Campion held on to claim the win.

The gap between the top two and Thackley in third has now grown to eleven points after the Dennyboys were beaten 5-1 at Penistone Church who climb to six, two points away from the play-off zone.

A Nathan Keightley hat-trick and an Antony Brown brace secured a comfortable victory for the hosts with Ben Grech-Brooksbank getting on the scoresheet for Thackley.

The other two sides in the top five, Rossington Main and Albion Sports, were both victorious with Liam King and Manasse Kiange scoring for Main in their 2-1 defeat of hosts Handsworth.

Ashley Flynn and Robbie Fox, meanwhile, struck in the opening hour for Sports as they won 2-0 at home to Knaresborough Town.

Garforth Town took the lead through an eighteenth minute Charlie Marshall penalty but the Miners went down 2-1 at Barton Town to drop to seventh in the table.

Thomas Waudby restored parity, also with a spot kick, before Harrison Coley grabbed a winner with ten minutes remaining for the Swans who move up to fourteenth.

Basement side Maltby Main were beaten 1-0 at Pickering Town, Kieran Stares with a 63rd minute decider, and they are now four points adrift of Goole AFC who picked up a massive 5-3 win at Bottesford Town.

Reagan Waud's second and an injury-time strike from Bradley Kerr ensured the victory for the Vikings in the final quarter-of-an-hour of the game.

Golcar United are up to tenth after two injury-time goals snatched a 3-2 win at Silsden AFC, Adam Field levelling matters before George Doyle's penalty, his second goal of the afternoon, gave his side the points.

And, it was a point apiece for Tadcaster Albion and Eccleshill United, Jordan Hines' late equaliser for the Brewers claiming a 1-1 draw against the visiting Eagles who had taken the lead through Zackary Sangster.

Wakefield AFC have returned to the summit of Division One, taking advantage of a free afternoon for Parkgate to leapfrog them to the top of the table by one point.

Mason Rubie and Ben Gelder scored in the opening half-hour as they won 2-0 at Glasshoughton Welfare whilst Beverley Town stay third, now two points off the leaders, with their 1-0 victory at Brigg Town, Matthew Plumber deciding matters early in the second half.

Shirebrook Town remain three points behind Wakefield after Kieren Watson snatched an injury-time winner for them in a 2-1 victory at home to Wombwell Town who they replace in fourth spot.

Horbury Town, Dronfield Town and Staveley Miners Welfare stay seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, after they all picked up victories.

James Cusworth, Gibril Bojang and Abdul Asamoah scored for Horbury as they came from behind to beat visitors Armthorpe Welfare 3-1.

Arran Bovill grabbed a late winner for Dronfield as they triumphed 1-0 at Retford FC and there were goals for Kian Tansley, Joel Ward, Jack Deakin, Mackenzie Ross and Joshua Pickering as Staveley won 5-1 at Athersley Recreation.

There was a hat-trick for Harry Clapham in Selby Town's 6-0 home win over Yorkshire Amateur whilst a Thomas Lavin brace helped Nostell Miners Welfare to a 4-0 victory at Ollerton Town.

Ethan Fretwell's leveller for Swallownest ensured the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw at Louth Town after Alex Aldrich had put the hosts ahead.

And, two games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches, with Clay Cross Town's home meeting with Harrogate Railway Athletic and Retford United's trip to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic called off due to wet weather.
