Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #50

21st January, 2024

The recent freezing conditions continued to blight the Toolstation NCEL with only four Division One games going ahead on another frustrating weekend for the majority of the league's sides.

Wombwell Town are up to fourth in the table after their 4-1 home victory over next-to-bottom Swallownest, Rikki Paylor opening the scoring for the hosts before Francis Finneran's 33rd minute equaliser.

But, Wombwell immediately regained the lead through Anthony Mackie and a double from Edward Agnew made sure of the points.

Jake Champion struck twice for Retford United in the 4-0 defeat of visitors Athersley Recreation to climb into fifth, Joshua Nodder and Alistar Haydock also finding the net with all four goals coming in the opening period.

And, Brigg Town and Selby Town stay fourteenth and fifteenth, respectively, despite both picking up wins on their travels.

Brett Agnew's first half double was added to in the second period by Dean McCarthy and Declan Bacon as Brigg were 4-1 victors at Staveley Miners Welfare, Kian Tansley with a late consolation for the Trojans.

Meanwhile, Selby came from behind to win 2-1 at Harrogate Railway Athletic after the home side had taken a sixth minute lead through Eliel Anku.

Edward Dry's spot kick midway through the second half restored parity with Harry Clapham scoring what proved to be the winner with ten minutes remaining.
