Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #48

14th January, 2024

Two Toolstation NCEL sides are through to the last sixteen of the Isuzu FA Vase for the first time since 2015 after victories for Emley AFC and Hallam in the Fourth Round on Saturday.

Hallam made history by reaching the stage for the first time thanks to a 3-1 home win over league rivals Silsden AFC.

The tie was goalless until the 50th minute when Ellis Hudson put the visitors ahead but Iren Wilson levelled around the hour mark before Basile Zottos struck soon after and Wilson's injury-time second ensured progress for the Countrymen.

Emley, who last reached the Fifth Round in 1990, defeated North West Counties League visitors Charnock Richard 3-0 to join Hallam in Monday's draw.

Ruben Jerome, Jack Cowgill and Nathan Curtis found the net for the Pewits in the second-half to go through to the next stage that takes place in February.

Meanwhile, in the Premier Division, leaders Campion were unable to extend their four point advantage over second placed Emley as they were beaten 5-2 at home by Golcar United.

Daniel Naidole and Oliver Russon gave the visitors a two goal advantage by the interval before a third was added on 55 minutes by Malakai Phillip.

Aidan Day pulled one back for the hosts but their revival was halted by George Doyle and a second for Phillip with Patrick Sykes netting in injury time for Campion to conclude the scoring.

Thackley have kept their tight hold on third place after Kieran Suddards' 33rd minute strike ensured a 1-0 victory at Garforth Town who drop to seventh.

Albion Sports and Rossington Main continue to complete the top five with Sports winning 2-1 at Barton Town and Main drawing 2-2 at Eccleshill United.

Robbie Fox and Ryan Conlon netted for the Lions before Thomas Waudby scored for Barton whilst Gregory Young and Adam Baskerville got the goals for Rossington in between Brice Ghussein and Fredy Bernard's strikes for Eccleshill.

Penistone Church climb above Garforth into sixth, courtesy of a 1-0 home victory over Handsworth, Nathan Keightley with the decider midway through the opening period.

A 4-3 home win against Maltby Main sees Frickley Athletic jump to ninth but the visitors almost completed a remarkable comeback.

Lloyd Smith's penalty, a Rieves Boocock double and a Morgan James goal had the hosts 4-0 up by the 51st minute but Jake Bradford got Main off the mark before late goals from Haydn Ward and Jordan Lonchar made it a nervy end of the game for Athletic.

Charlie Nicholson had looked to have secured Goole AFC a victory at Tadcaster Albion in stoppage time but there was a further sting in the tail as Samuel Kay headed home an equaliser for the home side in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The point moves Goole off the bottom of the table, replaced in the basement by Maltby.

And, it was honours even between Bottesford Town and Pickering Town, Matthew Robinson's opener for the visitors cancelled out by Matthew Broadley in first half stoppage time.

Parkgate's sixth straight win keeps the Steelmen top of Division One, Dominic Hart, Jack Haslam and Liam Royles with the goals in a 3-0 victory at Brigg Town.

Wakefield AFC are up to second, two points off the summit, following a 5-0 win at Yorkshire Amateur, including a brace each for Ben Gelder and Slater Barkham-Barnes.

They leapfrog Shirebrook Town who drop to third as they drew 0-0 at Athersley Recreation, the day's only goalless game.

Beverley Town are fourth, courtesy of a 9-0 thrashing of hosts Armthorpe Welfare, two each for Joe McFadyen and Benjamin Hinchliffe whilst Scott Phillips, Luke Suluburic, Joshua Batty and Oliver Baldwin were also on the scoresheet.

Wombwell Town move into the play-off zone after putting seven past Glasshoughton Welfare on their travels without reply.

Edward Agnew, Jordan Kershaw and Bradley Kerr shared six of the goals between them with Louis Wardle also adding to the away side's tally.

A 1-0 loss at Selby Town sees Retford United fall to sixth, Troy Greening's late penalty securing the points for the hosting Robins who are up to fifteenth.

Gibril Bojang and Arista Llewellyn grabbed the goals for seventh placed Horbury Town in a 2-0 home victory over Staveley Miners Welfare whilst Louth Town are up to eighth thanks to their 4-0 defeat of visitors Retford FC.

Jordan Smith broke the deadlock, Bailey Wright netted twice and Cole Nelson also got on the scoresheet for the White Wolves.

Reece Clegg's early strike was enough for Clay Cross Town whose first home game since the beginning of October resulted in a 1-0 win over visitors Nostell Miners Welfare.

And, Sam Clothier's late equaliser made it a point apiece in a 1-1 draw for Harrogate Railway Athletic at home to Dronfield Town after Callum Mawbey had netted in the first half for the visitors.

One game, meanwhile, was postponed with Worsbrough Bridge Athletic's home clash with Swallownest called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
