Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #33

19th November, 2023

Campion have returned to the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division after picking up a point at Thackley in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Marcus Day had given them a 35th minute lead but Marcus Edwards' header for the hosts as the game entered its last quarter-of-an-hour ensured that the spoils were shared.

Campion exchanged places with Emley AFC who were in county cup action whilst Thackley remain fourth in the table.

Two goals in stoppage time saw Albion Sports grab the points from their visitors Pickering Town to move within three points of the summit in third.

Wayne Brooksby had given the travelling Pikes a first-half advantage and that is how it stayed until last gasp strikes from Aran Basi and Robbie Fox turned the game completely on its head and in the Lions' favour.

Fifth placed Garforth Town's home clash with Eccleshill United was one of three games called off due to bad weather with Barton Town's trip to Knaresborough Town and Silsden AFC's home match against Handsworth being the other victims.

Frickley Athletic remain sixth after a 1-0 loss at bottom side Bottesford Town who picked up three vital points, courtesy of Matthew Broadley's 28th minute winner.

Bottesford are now only a point behind Maltby Main after the Miners were beaten 1-0 at home by Hallam, James Matthews with the only goal of the game that sends the Countrymen up into seventh.

Late goals from Tyla Bell and Adam Baskerville secured Rossington Main a 4-2 home victory over Tadcaster Albion in a game that was 2-2 at the interval after Daniel Thirkell's double for the away side had cancelled out earlier strikes from Manasse Kiange and Ross Hannah.

And, Antony Brown netted twice for Penistone Church with Nathan Keightley also getting on the scoresheet as they won 3-0 at Goole AFC to climb to tenth.

Division One leaders Wakefield AFC were 5-0 home winners against Retford United to stretch their lead at the top to three points.

Oliver Green and Jaydan Sandhu scored two each whilst there was one for Ben Gelder in the victory to keep them ahead of Parkgate who move up to second after their 4-0 victory at Armthorpe Welfare.

Steven Hopewell's double was added to with strikes in the last ten minutes from Liam Royles and Harry Day for the Steelmen.

Fourth-placed Beverley Town missed out on a chance to move into the top three as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Staveley Miners Welfare, Noah Flint with what proved to be the decider in the 24th minute.

And, Shirebrook Town stay fifth after they went down 5-1 at Horbury Town who climb to sixth, with James Cursworth netting four of the home side's goals.

But, his achievements were overshadowed by Horbury goalkeeper Paul Hagreen who scored from over seventy yards on the hour mark when he spotted his opposite number off his line.

Arran Bovill claimed an 89th minute winner as Dronfield Town edged a 3-2 home victory over Nostell Miners Welfare whilst a Harley Holt double helped Worsbrough Bridge Athletic to a 4-1 win at Retford FC.

Meanwhile, Sam Thompson scored early in the second half for Athersley Recreation to make sure it was a point apiece with their 1-1 draw at Glasshoughton Welfare.

As in the Premier Division, a few games were called off due to a waterlogged pitch with matches at Clay Cross Town, Harrogate Railway Athletic, Selby Town and Yorkshire Amateur against Ollerton Town, Louth Town, Swallownest and Wombwell Town, respectively, all now to be played at a later date.

And, in the Third Round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup, Emley powered past visitors SJR Worksop with an 11-0 victory.

There were two each for Iyrwah Gooden, Ruben Jerome and James Walshaw whilst Paul Walker, Joseph Kenny, Dominic Riordan, Adam Mirza and Thomas Haigh all added to the tally for the Pewits.
