Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #28

2nd November, 2023

Silsden AFC took the final remaining place in the Second Round of this season's Isuzu FA Vase after an excellent 4-0 win at Redcar Athletic in midweek.

The Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side's trip to their Ebac Northern League hosts went ahead at the third attempt on a Tuesday night that saw all but five games involving our clubs postponed due to the continuing bad weather.

And, it rained goals in the Cobbydalers' favour as Casey Stewart, Kayle Price and Jake Maltby gave Silsden a comfortable lead by the interval before Isaac Baldwin claimed the fourth with seventeen minutes remaining.

Their win sets up a trip to Abbey Hey in one of seven Second Round ties being contested by NCEL clubs a week on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Emley AFC went through to the Third Round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup without any difficulty as they won 8-1 at home to Yorkshire Main, Iyrwah Gooden's hat-trick concluding the scoring following goals from Nathan Curtis, Paul Walker, Jack Cowgill, Harrison Rowley and Alex Metcalfe.

In the all-NCEL West Riding County Cup First Round tie between Goole AFC and Eccleshill United, it was the hosting Vikings that progressed with a 3-0 victory as Liam Flanagan struck twice, sandwiching an own goal from Alexander Laird.

Wilfred Frimpong and Theju Kongolo found the net for Yorkshire Amateur on an otherwise forgettable night as the Ammers were beaten 10-2 at Barnoldswick Town.

And, in the JCP Construction League Cup, Barton Town raced into a 3-0 lead at Shirebrook Town, Craig King, Thomas Waudby and Brooklyn Dennis with the goals that had seemingly ended the contest after 23 minutes.

But, the Division One home side battled back to level against their Premier Division visitors, George Slack's second in stoppage time making it 3-3 with John Partridge also scoring for the hosts.

The tie went to spot kicks that Barton won 4-2 to go through, joining Pickering Town and Beverley Town as the sides so far claiming a place in the Third Round.

Wednesday's action focused on the league with Albion Sports climbing into second spot in the Premier Division following a 3-2 home victory over Maltby Main.

Eisa Faulding's opener and a spot kick from Robbie Fox saw the Lions 2-0 up by the eighteenth minute before Nathan Perks halved the deficit with a penalty of his own.

Tabish Hussain netted the home side's third midway through the second period before Ethan Hobson made it a nailbiting finale by reducing the lead back down to one goal just before injury time.

In Division One, Louth Town are up to eleventh following their 1-0 win at Ollerton Town, Finlay Drakes with the vital strike on 53 minutes.

And, Staveley Miners Welfare's 2-1 defeat of hosts Brigg Town moves them up to twelfth, Corey Pick and Kian Tansley's penalty giving them the win with Declan Bacon scoring what had been an equaliser for the Zebras.
