12th October, 2023

Selby Town secured the final spot in the Second Round of this season's JCP Construction League Cup with a 3-0 home victory over Retford United in midweek.

Thomas Palmer's double sandwiched an early second half strike from Harry Clapham as the Robins set up a date to host Parkgate at the next stage at the end of November.

Tuesday night's action also involved three Toolstation NCEL Premier Division matches with Albion Sports moving up to second for a short while after a 1-1 draw at Garforth Town.

The visiting Lions took a 77th minute lead through Robbie Fox but Charlie Marshall ensured the spoils were shared with a quick equaliser for the Miners.

Campion replaced Sports in second spot on Wednesday night as they won 8-3 at home to Maltby Main with two goals each for Marcus Day, Samuel Bradley and Patrick Sykes as they came from 3-2 down to take the points whilst their visitors remain next-to-bottom.

Emley AFC are up to sixth after a single-goal victory at Penistone Church, Nathan Curtis' seventh minute strike proving enough for Pewits as they close the gap to the summit to six points with games in hand.

Bottesford Town picked up their second league victory of the season with a dramatic 3-2 home win over Hallam, Josh Fawcett with an injury time winner for the Poachers after Luke Ayris and Jack Griffin had restored parity when Iren Wilson had twice put the away side in front.

The Lincolnshire side remain at the bottom of the table but will take great confidence from the last-gasp defeat of their thirteenth-placed opponents.

Goole AFC have moved up four places to fifteenth following their 2-1 win at home to Handsworth, Liam Flanagan and Ben Gelder with the priceless goals for the Vikings before Alfie Dodsworth halved the deficit in stoppage time.

In Division One, Armthorpe Welfare climbed out of the basement with a 2-2 home draw against Nostell Miners Welfare but they were denied their first win as Jordan Kershaw twice equalised for the visitors following goals from Jack Varley and Aiden Tomes for the hosts.

And, Louth Town are now ninth after their 2-1 success at Retford FC, Benjamin Smith's opener cancelled out by Liam Bennett for the home side but Bradley Coulam pounced for what proved to be a winner in the 62nd minute for the White Wolves.

In County Cup action, there was an excellent win for Tadcaster Albion as they beat Bradford (Park Avenue) 5-2 in the First Round of the West Riding County Cup.

There were five different scorers for the Brewers as Declan Slater, James Moorby, Daniel McDaid, Tawheed Ahmed and Joseph Crosby all netted to see them progress at the expense of their Pitching In Northern Premier League hosts.

Goals for George Doyle, Slater Barkham-Barnes, Adam Field and Daniel Naidole ensured a 4-0 win for Premier Divison Golcar United at Division One hosts Glasshoughton Welfare in the same competition.

But, Horbury Town went down 2-0 at close neighbours Ossett United and, despite racing into a two-goal lead through Matthew Dempsey and Thomas Greaves, Thackley were narrowly beaten 3-2 at home by Brighouse Town.

There was delight in the Derbyshire Senior Cup for Shirebrook Town as a Kieren Watson double and one from Ashley Grayson saw them through from their First Round tie at home to NCEL Division rivals Clay Cross Town with a 3-0 scoreline.

However, Swallownest were beaten 7-0 at Worksop Town in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Second Round.
