28th September, 2023

Silsden AFC have continued their reign at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division after a 5-0 home victory over next-to-bottom Goole AFC in midweek.

The match went with form as Casey Stewart and Jake Maltby gave the hosts a two-goal advantage by the interval and their tally was added to in the second half by a second from Stewart as well as one each for Luke Brooksbank and T'nique Fishley.

Second-placed Handsworth went behind to an eighteenth minute opener from Nathan Cartman for visitors Knaresborough Town but Alfie Dodsworth's penalty in first half stoppage time ensured a point apiece in a 1-1 draw.

Campion climb to third after their 3-1 home win over Eccleshill United, Samuel Bradley, Patrick Sykes and Marcus Day with their goals whilst Zackary Sangster netted for the visiting Eagles.

Two injury-time strikes from Ellis Wade and Robbie Fox saw Albion Sports snatch all three points as they beat Garforth Town at the Horsfall Community Stadium, a win that moves the Lions up to fourth.

Manasse Kiange's winner in a 2-1 victory for Rossington Main lifts his side to ninth, after Josh Brown had levelled for hosts Penistone Church to cancel out Bradley Grayson's early breakthrough.

Pickering Town picked up a much-needed victory as a Matthew Dawes penalty and a Wayne Brooksby strike earned them a 2-1 scoreline over visitors Golcar United who pulled one back late on through Alfie Wilkinson.

Wombwell Town remain five points clear at the top of Division One, courtesy of a 3-1 home win against Shirebrook Town with all four goals coming in the last 25 minutes.

Owen Birks put the hosts ahead before Kieren Watson equalised but Kane Reece then struck twice to notch up Wombwell's eleventh win in twelve league matches.

Second-placed Nostell Miners Welfare were also victors, Josh Craig, Joe Wood and Jordan Kershaw finding the net in their 3-0 victory over visitors Ollerton Town who remain in the bottom three.

The two sides below Ollerton, Armthorpe Welfare and Swallownest, both suffered big home losses to compound their misery.

Leon Osborne's penalty levelled for Armthorpe after Curtis Senior had put Horbury Town ahead but the visitors ran riot in the second period to win 7-1 with Senior adding his second, Jamie Cusworth making it ten goals for the season - all away from home - as he scored four, and Gibril Bojang also getting in on the action with one of his own.

Swallownest, meanwhile, went down 6-0 to Louth Town, Jordan Smith's hat-trick, Bailey Wright's double and one from Alex Aldrich giving the White Wolves a comfortable win on their travels.

Meanwhile, there were victories for Beverley Town and Wakefield AFC to move them both into the top five.

A double for Oliver Baldwin was added to by Scott Phillips in Beverley's 3-0 triumph over Brigg Town whilst Daniel Youel, Billy Mole and Jack Durkin netted for Wakefield in their 3-1 home win over Glasshoughton Welfare.

Dronfield Town came from two goals down to take a point in a 2-2 draw with visitors Retford FC, James Lindores and Daniel White bringing them back into the game in the second period.

Luca Bolino and Alex Clark were the scorers for Harrogate Railway Athletic as they won 2-0 at home to Clay Cross Town.

In the two Wednesday games in Division One, Charlie Bingham scored both of Staveley Miners Welfare as they beat visitors Athersley Recreation 2-0 whilst there was a goalless draw between Yorkshire Amateur and Selby Town.

And, there were two First Round matches involving our sides in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup in midweek.

Kane Swinburn scored a hat-trick for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic but his side went down 6-3 in a highly entertaining game at NCEL rivals Hallam.

Scott Ruthven grabbed a couple for the Countrymen with one each for Jamie Austin, Iren Wilson, Danny Buttle and Alex Palmer sending the Sandygate side through to the next stage.

But, Maltby Main bowed out of the competition despite taking an early lead through Malachi-Ethan Bailey as they were beaten 2-1 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
