Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #12

7th September, 2023

Emley AFC became the third Toolstation NCEL side to make it through to Second Round Qualifying in this season's Emirates FA Cup with a fantastic 4-1 home win over Widnes in their midweek replay.

The Pewits produced a superb performance to beat their Pitching In Northern Premier League visitors to set up a trip to Mossley in just over a week's time.

Steven Irwin's 29th minute own goal gave Emley the lead and they took full advantage with Ruben Jerome quickly adding a second before James Steele brought Widnes back into the game in stoppage time.

But, it was the hosts who pressed further their advantage after the interval with James Walshaw netting a third on the hour mark and Donae Lawrence, who had scored in the 1-1 draw at the weekend, making sure with the fourth midway through the period.

In the Premier Division, Campion missed out on a chance to go top of the table as they were held to a 0-0 home draw by Tadcaster Albion so they are now two points off the summit whilst the Brewers climb to sixteenth.

Rossington Main came from two goals down to take the points at Hallam to leap up into eighth spot whilst the Countrymen drop to sixth.

Kieren Watson and Danny Buttle struck at the beginning of each half to give the home side the cushion but Danny Deakin and Ross Hannah brought the visitors back level by the 66th minute.

Player-boss Benjamin Hunter then grabbed the vital winner in the last quarter-of-an-hour for a 3-2 victory.

Beverley Town are up to third in Division One after Scott Phillips' hat-trick helped them to a 5-1 home victory over Selby Town.

Grant Tait and Luka Suluburic also got on the scoresheet for David Ricardo's side whilst Iwan Heeley's penalty was a consolation for the Robins.

And, it was honours even in a 1-1 draw between Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Retford FC with Liam Frost's opener for the visitors cancelled out by Kane Swinburn's 67th minute equaliser for the Briggers.
