3rd September, 2023

It proved to be an excellent Saturday afternoon in the Emirates FA Cup with two Toolstation NCEL sides winning their First Round Qualifying ties whilst the third earned a midweek home replay.

A Robbie Fox hat-trick helped Albion Sports stun Pitching In Northern Premier League hosts Brighouse Town with Thomas Ponter also netting for the Lions in a 4-2 victory.

Tadcaster Albion were 2-1 home victors over Ebac Northern League side Heaton Stannington with Oliver Norman and Lewis Stephens getting on the scoresheet for the Brewers.

Donae Lawrence gave Emley AFC a 47th minute lead at Widnes but the Northern Premier League side quickly levelled matters for a 1-1 draw and the Pewits have another chance to cause a shock when they meet again on Tuesday night.

Friday night's tie, however, ended in defeat as Whitby Town proved too strong for hosts Goole AFC as the Vikings bowed out of the competition in a 6-0 defeat.

In the Premier Division, Knaresborough Town remain top of the table despite dropping their first points of the season in a 2-1 loss at Eccleshill United.

Brice Ghussein and Alexander Laird scored to put the home side into a 2-0 lead by the quarter-of-an-hour mark and, although Danny Edwards converted a penalty on the half-hour to halve the deficit, it was the Eagles who took the points.

Penistone Church and Barton Town climb to third and fourth, respectively, after picking up home wins.

Nathan Keightley got both of Church's goals as Penistone defeated Bottesford Town 2-0 whilst Thomas Waudby was the matchwinner in Barton's single-goal victory over Pickering Town.

They both go above Hallam who drop to fifth after their 2-1 loss at Silsden AFC, Kieren Watson with a consolation after Spencer Harris and Ellis Hudson had netted for the hosts who jump up to seventh.

In between them are Frickley Athletic who, courtesy of goals from Alex Varley, Eliel Anku, an own goal and Alhassane Keita's strike, were 4-1 winners over visitors Golcar United.

Garforth Town and Maltby Main notched up their first league wins of the campaign with Harry Viggars, Tabish Hussain, Nash Connolly, Jordan Emery and Matthew Antcliff finding the net in Garforth's 5-2 victory over Rossington Main at home.

And, Alex Hardwick and Ryan Ellison were the scorers in Maltby's 2-1 success at Thackley.

Wombwell Town have returned to the top of Division One following their 5-1 victory at Brigg Town, with two goals from Gavin Allott and one each for Edward Agnew, Callum Walton and Bradley Kerr, including three penalties.

They leapfrog Parkgate, who also won, on goal difference, Ross Duggan and Connor Williamson with the Steelmen's goals in a 2-1 victory at Athersley Recreation.

Ashley Flynn, Robbie Miller, Jake Morrison and Daniel Youel were the scorers as Wakefield AFC won 4-0 at Armthorpe Welfare to move into third above Nostell Miners Welfare who were beaten 6-3 at Retford FC.

Jordan Kershaw scored twice for Nostell but he was outdone by Liam Frost who netted a hat-trick for the Choughs who climb to eleventh.

Their neighbours Retford United are fifth, meanwhile, after a last-gasp strike from Lewis Macaskill snatched the Badgers a 1-0 victory at Clay Cross Town.

Shirebrook Town are sixth after their single-goal victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in Friday night's game, Kiyani Clayton also pouncing in stoppage time to take the points.

Dronfield Town hit hosts Yorkshire Amateur for six with a goal each from Charlie Stewart, Matthew Crowe, James Lindores, Owen Lester, Samuel Bebbington and Callum Mawbey whilst Wilfred Frimpong and Birama Dirallo got one each for the Ammers.

Harry Hurst grabbed an 87th-minute winner to claim Ollerton Town's first league victory of the season and move them out of the bottom three, courtesy of a 3-2 defeat of basement visitors Swallownest.

Elsewhere, Glasshoughton Welfare were 3-0 home victors over Louth Town, Staveley Miners Welfare took the points in a 2-1 win at Selby Town, and it was a goalless draw between Horbury Town and their visitors Beverley Town.
