Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #10

31st August, 2023

A single-goal victory for Hallam was enough to propel them up to third spot in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division in midweek whilst the top of Division One has changed hands once more with Parkgate at the summit.

Kieren Watson netted in the 51st minute as Hallam defeated visitors Penistone Church in the only top flight game and Parkgate made it five wins out of five with a 4-1 home victory over Brigg Town in one of nine matches in Division One.

Ryan Thompson had put the visiting Zebras ahead but Silas Valladolid-Collins and Ross Duggan had made sure the Steelmen led by the interval before Duggan's second and a Joshua Nodder strike in the second period claimed the three points for the hosts.

Nostell Miners Welfare are just behind Parkgate on goal difference after Joe Wood, Jordan Kershaw and Thomas Lavin had netted for them in a 3-1 defeat of visitors Clay Cross Town who had made the breakthrough with Thomas Mellor's opener.

A Joe McFadyen hat-trick helped Beverley Town to a 7-1 home demolition of Armthorpe Welfare that moves them up into fourth spot.

Scott Phillips struck twice and there was also one each for Joshua Batty and Benjamin Hinchliffe with Scott Dixon grabbing a consolation for the away side.

A 3-1 win at Swallownest sees Worsbrough Bridge Athletic climb up to fifth, a Luke Francis brace added to by Taylor Nicholson as the Briggers snatched the victory with two late goals.

Wakefield FC are now seventh following their 7-0 home victory over Yorkshire Amateur, Mason Rubie's deadlock breaker was the first of five first-half goals with Billy Mole scoring twice along with strikes from Ashley Flynn and Jaydan Sandhu.

Mole then completed his hat-trick and Flynn his brace after the interval to heap further misery on the Ammers.

There were also two goals for Max Rhodes as Dronfield Town edged a pulsating home game with Harrogate Railway Athletic 4-3 whilst Nathan Watson struck twice for Shirebrook Town in their 3-0 victory over visitors Athersley Recreation.

Staveley Miners Welfare were also involved in a seven-goal thriller as they won 4-3 at home against Horbury Town, Mackenzie Ross with a couple for the Trojans, and it was 1-1 between hosts Retford United and Selby Town, Kyle Fish with the 72nd minute equaliser for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Ollerton Town were knocked out of the Notts Senior Cup at the First Round Stage as, despite goals from Ethan Thorpe and Alex Gibbins, they went down 3-2 at former NCEL side Rainworth Miners Welfare.
