Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #6

17th August, 2023

Hallam have moved up to third in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division after their 3-1 victory at Emley AFC in midweek.

Brandon Bradbury gave the Countrymen a fourteenth minute lead that was doubled early in the second period by Kieren Watson before Oliver Fearon made sure with his side's third as the game drew towards its close at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.

Ruben Jerome converted a late penalty to get the hosting Pewits on the scoresheet but the defeat sees them drop to tenth in the table.

Frickley Athletic were 2-0 winners at Pickering Town who are now in the basement having lost all four of their matches so far without scoring a goal.

Alhassane Keita broke the deadlock on 28 minutes before Richard Collier struck the second midway through the second half to complete the victory that lifts Frickley to eighth.

Silsden AFC were 2-1 home winners over Thackley, Casey Stewart and Ellis Hudson with the goals for the Cobbydalers who climb to ninth and Thomas Greaves netted what was an equaliser for the now seventh-placed visitors.

Alfie Dodsworth and Kieran Wells struck for Handsworth in a 2-0 victory at home over Garforth Town whilst Albion Sports' match with visitors Maltby Main was abandoned after twenty minutes.

A serious injury to Main's Jake Squires resulted in the game being called off and all at the NCEL wish him the best in what will hopefully be a quick recovery.

In Division One, two late goals for Harrogate Railway Athletic saw them snatch a 4-3 victory at Beverley Town to move them to the top of the table.

Harry Croft and Sean Hunter pounced, the latter goal coming deep in stoppage time, after it looked like the hosts, helped by a Scott Phillips double, would pick up the victory.

Brigg Town are up to second following their 2-1 win at Swallownest, Scott Hutchinson and Ben Vasquez with the goals at either end of the game after Desmond Okoro had put the hosts ahead on five minutes.

A Liam Owen hat-trick helped Nostell Miners Welfare to a 6-2 home victory against Horbury Town to move them up into fourth, a place above Wombwell Town who were 3-1 winners over visitors Clay Cross Town.

Callum Walton's double was added to by an injury time strike from Michell Akresi in the battle of two new NCEL sides.

Staveley Miners Welfare raced into a six-goal lead at home to Yorkshire Amateur by the interval, two for Dustyn Grierson and one each for Charlie Bingham, Noah Flint, Luke Mitchell and Mackenzie Ross.

The scoreboard was only added to once in the second period as Jay-Jay Cutts netted for the Trojans as they beat the Ammers 7-0 to jump up into tenth whilst their opponents drop into bottom spot.

Aaron Sennett-Neilson, Nathan Watson and Kiyani Clayton were the scorers as Shirebrook Town posted a 3-1 home victory over Glasshoughton Welfare whilst there were goals for Billy Mole, Oliver Green, Jake Morrison and Jaydan Sandhu in Wakefield AFC's defeat of visitors Dronfield Town.

And, it was honours even in a 1-1 draw between Ollerton Town and Athersley Recreation, Adam Morrison's opener for the hosts cancelled out by Andrew Wright for the Rec.

Meanwhile, Parkgate's home match with Retford FC was postponed due to floodlight problems at Green Lane.
