Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2023/24 #4

10th August, 2023

Maltby Main and Penistone Church booked their places in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup as they both secured 3-1 victories in their midweek replays.

Church defeated Pitching In Northern Premier League visitors City of Liverpool, Leon Hurles-Brook netting twice and Antony Brown's strike securing an excellent cup upset by the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side.

Christopher Salt, Jake Squires and Toby Kenyon, meanwhile, were the scorers for Maltby as they claimed a fine win at United Counties League hosts Pinchbeck United.

There was disappointment, elsewhere, however as Barton Town, Campion, Golcar United and Hallam all bowed out of the competition at the opening stage.

Thomas Waudby's goal for Barton ended up just being a consolation as they went down 3-1 at home to former NCEL side Grimsby Borough whilst Campion were beaten 2-1 at Wythenshawe, Aidan Kirby with an equaliser for the Red and Blacks who ultimately tasted defeat.

Golcar lost by a single goal at Trafford and Hallam were defeated 5-2 at Irlam despite strikes from Kieren Watson and Iren Wilson in the opening period.

Albion Sports' trip to Chadderton was postponed ahead of an FA investigation into whether Chadderton had fielded an allegedly ineligible player in their initial meeting at the weekend.

It was later ruled that Sports should be reinstated into the competition in place of their opponents.

In the Premier Division, Knaresborough Town are top of the table after they made it three wins out of three, Danny Edwards' hat-trick claiming a 3-1 victory over visitors Goole AFC whose goal came from Ben Gelder.

Silsden AFC were 1-0 winners at Rossington Main, Casey Stewart with the only goal of the game, and late goals from Thomas Greaves and George Green ensured a 2-0 home win for Thackley over Pickering Town.

Eccleshill United fell to the same scoreline as James Walshaw and Jack Cowgill pounced in the first half as Emley AFC left the Servo Group Stadium with all three points.

The only midweek Division One game saw Beverley Town claim a 1-0 home victory against Wakefield AFC, Oliver Baldwin with the breakthrough just before the half-hour mark.

And, there was one friendly as hosts Garforth Town played out a 2-2 draw with Selby Town, Sam Barker and Joe Hobson for the Miners whilst Kyle Fish and Edward Dry scored for the visiting Robins.
