Baris NCEL Match Review #49

10th February, 2013

The three top four teams who were involved in Baris NCEL Premier Division action on Saturday all won to keep their title challenges going.

Scarborough Athletic continue to head the pack after a 2-1 victory at Arnold Town.

Ryan Blott and Tony Hackworth put them in control of the game at Eagle Valley before Robert Austin's 76th minute strike for the home side made it a nailbiting end to the match.

The Seadogs remain two points clear of Brighouse Town who won by the same scoreline at home to Glasshoughton Welfare, Danny Nadiole and Ernest Boafo with their goals.

Third-placed Bridlington Town were in East Riding Senior Cup action with Scott Phillips scoring twice in their 2-0 Quarter-Final win at Beverley Town so it gave Worksop Parramore a chance to close the gap in fourth spot which they duly did with a 2-1 triumph at Retford United.

At the other end of the table, Arnold are now bottom after their defeat, replacing Winterton Rangers who were 4-1 home winners over high-flying Barton Town Old Boys.

Chris Funnell struck twice for Rangers whilst Robbie Spence and Daniel Hagan also got on the scoresheet for the hosts.

There were 4-0 victories for Parkgate and Thackley with Steven McDonnell scoring twice for Parkgate at Staveley Miners Welfare and Mark Bett starting the goal rush for Thackley at home to Long Eaton United.

Two goals in two second half minutes from Matthew Plant and Brian Cusworth ensured a 2-1 home win for Maltby Main against Heanor Town whilst there were draws in the remaining two Premier Division matches.

Armthorpe Welfare's game with Tadcaster Albion ended 3-3 whilst it finished 1-1 in the clash between Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Pickering Town.

Division One leaders Athersley Recreation got back to winning ways as four goals from Jason Bentley helped them to a 7-1 home victory over Dinnington Town.

Goals from Jack Barnett, Adam Burton and Carlos Forbes secured Shirebrook Town a 3-0 win at Louth Town to climb into second, a point behind the leaders but having played a couple of games more.

They and Albion Sports went above Cleethorpes Town who did not have a game, Sports winning 5-2 at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic with Graeme Sides and Karl Hall getting a brace each.

Knaresborough Town and Teversal now complete the top six and will both feel they have a chance for promotion after victories at the weekend.

Craig Heard's 80th minute winner saw Knaresborough beat hosts AFC Emley, 2-1, whilst Teversal cantered to a 5-0 scoreline at the expense of Rossington Main at Carnarvon Street, Kye Pilmore netting twice in the first half to set them on their way.

Bottom side Selby Town picked up their third win of the season, beating the team one place above them, Yorkshire Amateur, 4-1, as the Robins look to start a remarkable run to get out of the relegation zone.

Eccleshill United picked up three vitals points as they won 5-1 at Askern Villa to move up into seventeenth spot whilst there were 2-0 victories for Hemsworth Miners Welfare at Bottesford Town and Hallam at home to Pontefract Collieries, respectively.

And, it was a point apiece for Grimsby Borough and Clipstone Welfare as their game at the Bradley Football Development Centre finished 1-1.
